Duel of the Dinosaurs

Grade 1

This piece is written entirely using Gear 1. Warm-ups include reading A, D and G string notes in Gear 1, working on bow lifts and marcato bow style, and practicing the quarter-2 eighth note rhythms found frequently in the piece. 

Valor Rising

Grade 1.5

This piece is designed primarily in Gear 1 while introducing Gear 2 (F natural on the String, and Bb on the G String). Warm-ups focus on differentating between the two Gears, bow placement, dynamics, and articulation.

The Elf's Day Off

This thoughtfully crafted work is designed entirely using 5th Gear for Violin and Bass and the closely related 4th Gear for Viola and Cello. It's a perfect introduction to the key of Eb Major, accessible at a grade 2 level. Warm-ups focus on playing in those gears, understanding early spiccato, and subdividing. 

Ice Mountain Pass

This piece is designed primarily in Gears 1, 2 and 3 and contains a variety of 16th note rhythms. Warm-ups cover a variety of topics from the finger patterns and rhythms, to slurs, bow lifts and producing a solid tone.

Explore the Chromatic Scale in this piece, using the Chromatic Hopscotch Board in Getting in Gear. When not chromatic, this piece lays in Gears 1 and 2. Warm-ups focus on the chromatic patterns, trills, up-up bowings, and syncopation.
