PART 3: RHYTHM RULES!

The green section in the book is dedicated to rhythm. We use the concept of a ruler to introduce note values as a length in time. Most of these exercises are duets where the harmony provides a pulse or subdivision to assist with the learning process.   Each new rhythm concept is introduced with a "rhythm ruler" such as this one:

Concepts include basic rhythms, rests, off beats, syncopation, dotted notes, 16th note combinations, triplets, and 6/8 time. When writing these exercises, we thought of common pitfalls and rhythm traps students often find themselves in, and created opportunities for them to master skills while emphasizing the need to read.
